Our Story

Barasat Anweshan has formed important links with the Government, Partner Organizations and Donor Agencies over the years. These links have made the organization gain a unique position and play a catalytic role in the growth of the society.

Deeply moved by the condition of children of poor families in villages having no parents in some cases or having only mother or father in other cases with very scanty financial means to support and rear them, some service minded youth of the town of Barasat, North24-Parganas in the state of West Bengal decided to form an organization to serve the society in general with a special emphasis to look after such poor helpless &distressed children from poor families. For this purpose Nivedita Home/ Ashram was set up by Barasat Anweshan

To implement and give concrete shape to these objects, land was purchased during the year 2004 and building was constructed. The Orphanage/Ashram was started with only 9 (Nine) boys during the year 2004 Looking to the benevolent work being done by the Ashram, various trusts, business organizations and people in general came forward to help the organization in all respects. This helped Ashram to expand its activities by increasing the number of inmates every year. Today there are many children in the orphanage.   All the children are provided with boarding, clothing, toiletry, school books, stationery, sports, medicines etc. free of cost. To facilitate education for these Orphan children, BARASAT ANWESHAN   started a Primary School in the year 2004 named RAMKRISHNA SARADA MISSION VIDYALAYA where additionally the children from the locality and surrounding villages are getting education together with the Ashram inmates.

During all these years the Ashram is being run through donations from well wishers only. Till date no government or institutional funding has been received for running this orphanage.  This has necessitated the society to undertake other socio-economic development projects, which are self-sustainable and moreover which can yield surpluses to enable other non-business social projects run through the earned surplus.
Most of such programs and projects are implemented with the financial assistance of Government Agencies and other Private institutions, while some are exclusively from its own resources.

The campus holds several small cottages and other residential units scattered over the site providing accommodation to the inmates and guests. The small buildings also include class room, kitchen, dining room, and a guest house. The friends and well wishers of the Ashram from various parts of India visit the place and spend a night or two at the Ashram.
